Cape Town's New High Tea Hot Spot

High Tea is a much loved leisure activity promising mounds of beautifully decorated sweet and savoury treats and delicious baked goodies all washed down with a cup of steaming hot tea or coffee.

Delivering all of the above and more, an exciting new high tea will be on offer from 19 May at the Sweet Cillie’s Cakery which recently opened its doors on the bustling Tokai main road opposite the Blue Route Mall.

Available from 3pm on the third Saturday of every month, with bookings being essential as only 20 people are hosted at a time, the Sweet Cillie’s High Tea offers a bit of a twist on the traditional high tea in that it will be more laid-back and informal than many others – making it the perfect mother daughter bonding activity, or girls afternoon out for a relaxed catch up, or perhaps as a fun office outing – minus any daunting pretences or stuffy atmosphere.

Sweet Cillie’s will also be offering an optional tea pairing experience with your high tea – with tea varieties from Carmien Tea being carefully matched to the selection of sweet and savoury treats and complimenting the flavours perfectly.  A must-do activity for tea lovers!

Customers who book for the Sweet Cillie’s High Tea can expect items such as delicate moist chocolate brownies, custard slices with an unrivalled filling, petite scones, dainty savoury pies filled with feta and spinach, asparagus and caramelized onion, and chicken and mushroom – to name but a few.  The high tea will also be suitable for vegetarians.

A cheesy cakery
Cilla De Jonge (affectionately known as Cillie),the owner and baker at Sweet Cillie’s explains that her warm and welcoming cakery, which was previously based in Fish Hoek, is renowned for its baked cheesecake, with varieties such as New York Style, Red Velvet, Carrot and Brownie all featuring on the menu – amongst many others.  The menu items change often depending on Cillie’s creative process and tastes that day.

Favouring lashings of fresh farm butter, eggs and cream like grandmother used to use when baking, Cillie says her baking style is more American than fine French – unsurprising given that she lived in America for several years with her husband before returning to South Africa.

Cillie supplied the Blaauwklippen and Lourensford markets with her cheesecakes for several years before making the decision to open a retail outlet cakery with a permanent address.  She has not looked back since and now the cakery keeps her far too busy to do the market circuit any more.

“My vision was for a welcoming venue where moms can come and relax while the kids play or do homework, where friends can catch up, where small business owners can come an unwind and let their creative processes flow or just check their emails in a warm and happy space.  All accompanied by delicious baked treats and a great cup of coffee or tea.”

The Sweet Cillie’s Cakery is open every day except Sundays and serves a variety of wonderful sweet and savoury treats.  High Tea will launch on Saturday 19 May and thereafter will be available to the public on the third Saturday of every month in the afternoon, starting at 3pm – with limited seating for only 20 guests at R245 per seat (children 12 and under R185) – so remember to book. The dates to look forward to are:
Saturday 16 June
Saturday 21 July
Saturday 18 August
Saturday 15 September
